In a time long, long ago there lived a man named John who loved spirals. Spirals are those twisty shapes that twirl and twirl, like a snail’s shell. Making these spirals brought John joy, and he spent many hours trying to get the right result. He’d go over his spirals a lot, and he wouldn’t show them to anybody until he thought they were right. John wanted to make his spirals the best that they could be!
But John’s love of spirals began to turn into something less than nice. He started copying other peoples’ spirals. Rather than designing himself, he plagiarized the designs of others and claimed them as his own. As he kept lying about where his spirals came from, the lies grew bigger and bigger. Finally, someone caught on to what John was doing, and he was caught. People got mad and John got into deep trouble for it.
Because his lies had been exposed, John was furious and wanted revenge against everyone who he perceived to be responsible for revealing the truth. His thirst for vengeance only drove him to act dangerously. He stopped fixating on his spirals and instead started making bad decisions that helped put him and others in danger. One day, John was faced with a situation that spiraled out of control. Everything he had expected would happen to others was indeed happening to him, and he would have to face the consequences of what he had done.
John now had to navigate a delicate web of secrecy as he fell deeper and deeper into his own obsession with spirals... He realized there was a whole world of other spiral enthusiasts out there! But some of these people would stop at nothing to protect their own secrets regarding how they made their spirals. The more John learned about this secret world, the more he discovered some startling truths and newfound sense of entrapment. The maze he was trapped in tightened around him, and he discovered he was not alone in his fixation.
Initially, things for John were going well, but it quickly turned into a nightmare, of falling with fear, fear from which he could not escape. He started to feel as if he was always being watched — and that some of the people he had wronged would seek revenge. It made John feel very sad and afraid. He began spiraling down a dark path of despair. Eventually, John came to the conclusion that facing what he dreaded was the only way to take ownership of his role in the events that had unfolded. They had started out as spirals of joy, but now they haunted him, and he knew he couldn't go back to the spirals of old.
John’s fixation on spirals took him to the brink of a very dark place. He started to lose everything that meant something to him — friends and happiness. He was alone and lost, and felt lost and alone. He had traveled a long, strange path, and learned many valuable lessons along the way, about honesty and the consequences of one's decisions.
John should have been harnessing love for spirals for something good! He might have made brilliant spirals for construction, or airflow systems that keep people cool. He had the tools to dig up, tools to make perfect spirals, but chose a darker path that ultimately led to his demise.
